Michael Franti closed out the 1993 Big day Out in Sydney with his then band The Diposable Heroes of Hiphoprisy, that is 30 years ago and for some of us tonite at Tanks Arts Centre was a walk down memory lane reflecting on Franti's vast career and for others it was their first time to come and see Franti live.

It is hard to explain to people what a Michael Franti show is like, part rock concert, part evangelical gospel on how to live life and a 100% a gathering of like minded people up for a dance and a good time....even a support dog was in the crowd.

Franti has a vast wealth of material to draw from with 11 albums over the past two decades and over the past few years  his music has become more more focussed on the positive aspects of life, I guess moving to Bali and opening a retreat Soulshine would help a lot to try and see the positive in everything.

The set started out on fire with I'm Alive and then Life is Better With and then the hit Sound of Sunshine which saw Franti's first foray out into the crowd.

The amazing thing about Franti's shows are that he wants to be with the crowd, he wants to sing with them he wants to dance with them and he wants to connect with them and by doing so he lights a fire that connects everyone at the show.

The Music sees strangers dancing with one another and hugging one another...that is the power of the songs .... bringing people together

Of course you can't have happiness without a little sadness and to hear Franti talk about his fathers death and the lost opportunities there and then speak about his own son Taj and their adventures in bali day by day...I dont think there was a dry eye in the house.

Normally at a concert the muisc blows the roof off ....but Michael Frant's show  it was love that blew the roof off Tanks Arts Centre on Wednesday night.

The acoustic sing a long after curfew...was exceptionally special.

It has been 5 years since Franti last played tanks lets hope it isn't another 5 years until he gets back.
